In the beginning of this movie, i didnt find myself particularly drawn into the plot. For me it took a rather long time to get started. I didnt really get the point of the story until it was about the middle- end. I think after i looked back after i had watched the entire film, i appreciated it a little more, but my annicial reaction would have been to shut it off if i was watching it at home. But i also know that im not a person whos really big on movies, so i think that also effects my judgement. Some of the things i did enjoy about the movie though was the cast. I thought Todo was perfect, his voice was just so cute. I also thought Alfredo was casted perfectly. He seemed be the typical wise "father/ grandfather" figure for Todo. Another thing that i started to think when i was watching th movie was that since i didnt speak italian, it almost became like a sort of background "music" that was enjoyable. I dont think that someone who spoke the language, just because they hear it everyday. I also didnt hate reading the subtitles as much as i thought i would. I Enjoyed the middle- end of the story because thats when things finally really came together for me. I understood why Alfredo wanted him to leave and not come back, because he wanted what was best for him, and he knew that it wouldnt be in that town, working at the cinema for the rest of his life. He didnt want Todos life to be a dead end like his was.
When Todo never seemed to find true love, i thought that was really sad. I thought at some point he was going to meet up Elana again, but unfortunatly for him, that just never happened. The ending of the movie was good, but it seemed to last a really long time. i think that maybe if the writer, or director had shortened that section a bit, they would have gotten the same effect without it dragging on. But thats just my opinion. Like i said, i wasnt extremly excited about this movie.
